Guide
No-exam life insurance
Which applicants qualify for rapid decisions, the process, and what occurs if you don't qualify.
Many insurers now use rapid decision-making: for applicants within certain age and amount guidelines, they issue decisions based on your application, pharmacy records, driving history, and other data sources rather than requiring a medical exam. Many decisions come through in a single day. Each quote shows whether a physical exam is needed, possibly needed, or not needed for that specific product.
What it changes
Rapid underwriting doesn't mean skipping the application review. Carriers verify your answers, and a policy issued based on incorrect information can be challenged in the initial two years. If the carrier has questions from their own data, they might request an exam or lab tests later; at that point, you decide whether to proceed.
Who tends to qualify
Usually applicants below approximately 60 pursuing amounts within the carrier's rapid underwriting cap, with no serious health history and no tobacco use in the previous 12 months. If you had recent medical visits that included lab work, some carriers will accept those results in place of a new exam.
When an exam is necessary, you'll typically spend 20 to 30 minutes with a paramedical professional at your home or workplace in the Petaluma area, with no charge to you. For healthy applicants, a successful exam often elevates your rate category, so it's not necessarily a drawback.
